This book may not be as descriptive as some like, but I found it great for reading just before the test to brush up on things. For a more in depth book Lammle has the full study guide as well.

I recommend this book for someone who knows the material and just wants to fine tune their knowledge just before the test. otherwise, purchase the book in the above link.

Review of Todd Lammle's CCNA IOS Commands Survival Guide (Paperback)

Lammle's stated objective is to help the reader prepare for and pass the difficult CCNA exam.This book expands a bit on that objective.He states in the introduction that this is supplementary material.It's written to assist the student in understanding the line of thought behind the technology.
I found that quite useful.The CCNA is a rigorous exam; those who pass it have a pretty good understanding of the concepts and protocols. But "real world" practice is a trickier thing, especially NAT, and Lammle's book concisely tackles those issues of keeping a network running. He clearly discusses the "why". I'm keeping the book on my desk as a reference work beyond just exam prep. It's money well-spent.

Review of CompTIA Network+ Deluxe Study Guide: (Exam N10-004) (Hardcover)

I purchased this book after deciding to pursue my Network + certification. I am currently through 75% of the book. The book is very comprehensive but also straight forward. As the author states, in many areas he goes into far more detail about subject matter than the Network + exam requires. However, this detail does an excellent job in giving you both a high level and detailed view of how network related information fits together. This book will serve as an excellent reference manual.

After passing the Network + exam using this book, I am going to pursue my CCNA. About three years ago I attended classes at a local community college that used Cisco Network Academy course materials. I didn't complete it. In my opinion the Cisco Network Academy materials where a bit sketchy in some areas. Even though the Network + material is not vendor specific, it covered many of the same subject areas as the Cisco materials, but it has done a far better job.

Overall, I think this is an excellent book. If you need to know anything about general networking, or are seriously considering obtaining your CCNA, use this book first to get your Network +.

I own too many CCNA books.I only wish I had started with this one.As a recertification candidate I was floored by the amount of new material covered by the current CCNA exams.Todd Lammle has such a great way of presenting the material as it relates to the Cisco CCNA exam objectives, but also with respect to what we CCNA's do every day.Read this book, listen to Mr. Lammle's guidance, work the labs with real equipment or a great simulator like RouterSim's Network Visualizer, and pass the exam!This book is the best, and in my opinion the only, CCNA book you need.
