The "Computer and Intrusion Forensics" book is a good high-level overview of the digital forensic process.It contains chapters that will appeal to all types of new investigators who will need to deal with computer-related incidents, including law enforcement, corporate investigators, internal audit teams, and corporate incident teams.A strong International overview of the legal issues are also given for the United States, Europe, and Australia.

This book provides a good overview of tool techniques, but does not give many details on how the techniques would actually be done with any tool.A detailed overview of three tools are given, but two of them are available to law enforcement only.The reader will finish this book with a solid understanding of the process that occurs during a computer investigation, but will still need additional books or training to start performing an investigation.

The chapter on fraud is very informative, as the topic is not covered in other digital forensic books and the skills will likely be helpful for most investigators in the future.The "Computer Forensics in Law Enforcement and National Security" chapter describes the investigation process that any investigator would find useful, not just law enforcement as the title suggests.The "Intrusion Detection and Intrusion Forensics" chapter gives an overview of Intrusion Detection Systems and Logging, but little is mentioned on how to confirm an intrusion while minimizing the amount of evidence that is modified.

This book will be useful as a first book to a new investigator who is looking to learn about the digital forensic process.This book will also be useful for technical managers and supervisors who will need to understand what their investigators are doing.

We in the ITS community have been waiting a long time for a book just like this one. Although it is primarily intended for an audience in developing countries, this is a great place for anyone to get a complete and accurate introduction to the many-faceted world of Intelligent Transportation Systems. The authors, under the excellent guidance of PIARC, have assembled some of the best materials and advice across the range of technical, organizational and commercial issues that are found in ITS and transportation. I highly recommend the investment of time and money in acquiring and reading this book. Get it, read it, use it and our transportation systems can only get better.

Hello Amazon,

The author, who has written extentsively on the subjects of DW and DM is also associated with Sequent Computer Systems, a respected manufacturer and vendor of high-end Enterprise Data Centers, and a highlyexperienced player in the DW, CRM, DSS space.

So, although I wouldn'tdiscourage anyone interested in DW/DM in Telcos to read this book I wouldnot do so with the previso that this is a perspective of data warehousingand data mining in Telecoms, and that there will be a divergence of opinionwith a number of Mr. Mattisons observations, facts and experiences.

Thereis technology bias in most books that touch on the subjects (of Telcos,Data Warehousing and Data Mining), however this is pretty standard, alomostunavoidable and not necessarily undesirable if we take such accounts as oneof a number of perspectives on the subject(s).

Although I didn't find theconenction between DW and KM to be too convincing, or the DW developmentstrategy one that I would concur with, I would say that the attempt toidentify the Telco value chain to be very well articulated.

So yes, ifyou are interested in the subject then go ahead and read it, but don'tforget to put what you get from it in context - with the other diverseopinions on DW/DM and Telecoms - not too mention a lot of dramaticallydiffering opinions regarding Knowledge Management.

Review of Software Process Improvement with CMM (Hardcover)

I had the opportunity to read Mr. Raynus' book prior to final publication, and feel that it provides the best overview of process improvement with CMM now available. It is not a detailed analysis of the model; rather it linksthis valuable tool to overall software improvement. Mr. Raynus discussesother tools which must be used in this endeavor--common sense, a good graspof software metrics, and the ability to define goals and objectives. SWprofessionals will find his outlook to be a breath of fresh air--he hasbeen in the business, and knows how to put CMM in the right perspective. Throughout the book interesting parables and quotes are used to underscorethe need for good problem definition, and a sensible outlook.Then thespecifics of CMM are brought in to show how this powerful model can be usedto focus an organization's efforts.Also notable is the concise way Mr.Raynus organizes and explains the area of software metrics, which is theunderpinning for CMM. Finally, the author provides excellent case studymaterial, showing first-hand the ways an organization copes withmajor CMMimplementation--this alone is worth the price of the book.

It may soundlike an oxymoron to call this "an enjoyable CMM book"--softwareengineering isn't supposed to be fun! Even so, Mr. Raynus brings personality and a sense of humour to his task, as well as a lot ofconceptual and practical expertise. I for one strongly recommend the bookfor anyone working with, or considering, software improvement efforts withCMM.

This book is not like the other books on SCM. It is written in an easy-to-read and jargon free style and explains the SCM concepts, advantages and benefits of SCM.It also tells you how to implement SCM and what are the problems that you should be aware off.The chapter on SCM tools is excellent and so is the chapter on SCM in very large projects. Overall a very practical and user-friendly book. As a project manager of a large development project (more than 60 people), I have greatly benefitied from this book.

This is one of two books that are essential resources for software acquisition - "Software Agreements Line by Line" (ISBN 1587623692) for commercial software, and this one for open source.

The SCO debacle with respect to Linux, and earlier cases of open source challenges, such as that related to MySQL, underscore the importance of understanding what you can and cannot do under the provisions of the various open source license models.This book provides a thorough understanding of each of the major license models, a comparison of open source to commercial models, and topics such as intellectual property protection, governing laws, and related issues.

I like the way the author, a practicing attorney and respected expert in cyberlaw and Internet governance, places open source in context with background information on software patents, open source goals and the Open Source Definition.This is key to understanding the licensing models, including GNU GPL, Copyleft, Aladdin Free Public License, and Open Software License. It's also key to understanding the limitations and possible vulnerabilities inherent with these license models in particular, and open source models in general - especially regarding ownership of code, derivative works, and the legal ramifications.

An interesting chapter for anyone who is considering releasing an open source product, "Rolling Your Own Open Source License", covers these issues from the developer's perspective, and gives excellent advice for selecting the appropriate open source license model.

The appendices and associated CD ROM contain a wealth of reference material, ranging from significant provisions of UCITA and UETA (1999), to a summary of every major and some minor models not covered in detail in the body of the book.
